School Choir

Monday 20th April 2020

Hi everyone! We hope you are all safe and well at home and are having fun and quality time with your family. We are missing all of your smiley faces and being able to listen to your beautiful voices each week. As you all know, we need to stay at home so we can all play our part in overcoming this unusual situation together. We understand that this can be hard at times so we have thought about ways that we can still represent our choir from home. You will have all seen our amazing Plains Farm staff video that shows you all how much we miss you. So, on that note, we have set you all a challenge. We would like you to make a short recording of you singing one of our favourite songs, Vera Lynn – We’ll meet again! (accessible via YouTube). You don’t have to sing the full song, you can simply choose a verse or the chorus. You can include the backing music if you would like to. We would like these in by 4pm on Thursday the 23rd April, then we can get them all put together to create an amazing performance. We hope you can all take part and enjoy the challenge. Details of where to send your videos are below. If you need any help please feel free to contact us via the email below.

We hope you all continue to stay safe. See you all soon. Lots of love Miss Hodgson, Mrs Cowley and Mrs Quill xxx

Choir have been very busy since September. We have welcomed some new children into our singing family and we have already been in great demand to show off their amazing talent. Our performances so far have included raising funds at Sainsburys to support our local food bank, entertaining the residents of Hope Bank View and visits to St Mary’s & St Peter’s Church on Springwell Road and a Christmas Carol Service at St John’s Methodist Church in Ashbrooke. We have lots more exciting events coming up which we will keep you updated with.

Thank you for your continued support.

This afternoon Plains Farm Academy Choir joined other schools in the Big Sing Sunderland, at the Sunderland Empire.

The children sang all of the science themed songs that they had been practicing since January, these included: Dem Bones, Harvest for the World and Circle of Life.  Their hard work paid off as they all sounded fantastic!

Tuesday 9th July 2019

Today parents and carers of our choir came to enjoy the last school performance of the year. Plains Farm Choir sang some old favourites which were enjoyed by all.

Their professionalism shone through; singing acapella in the final two songs due to technical difficulties!!! What an amazing performance to end the year. Well done everyone!

Tuesday 2nd July 2019

Today Plains Farm Academy choir hosted ‘A Walk down Memory Lane ‘sing-a-long for the residents of Hope Bank View Independent Living.

After months of practicing, the choir were in fine voice; singing classic songs from the 40s, 50s and 60’s including:  ‘A bicycle built for two’,  ‘Que Sera Sera’ and  ‘Daydream Believer’.

Everyone enjoyed the sing-a long immensely and the children fully enjoyed the performance. Afterwards, they joined the elderly residents for a cup of tea and a slice of cake; listening to them reminiscing about times gone by.

Since returning to school after the Christmas holidays, the choir have been practicing a variety of Science themed songs in preparation for ‘The Big Sing’. This will be taking place at The Empire Theatre in July.

As well as this, the children were tasked with collating a selection of war time songs.  We will continue to practice these alongside our ‘Big Sing’ songs prior to upcoming performances in school.
